Royal Challengers Bangalore continued their winning streak as they trashed Rajasthan Royals by a massive margin played at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Thursday.
Royal Challengers Bangalore won the toss and decided to field first. RR openers Jos Buttler and Manan Vohra started off aggressively with some lovely boundaries. Mohammed Siraj produced the breakthrough getting the wicket of Buttler who made the room to hit a boundary but hit the top of the bails. A good running catch by Kane Richardson from mid-on resulted in the wicket of Manan Vohra.
Mohammed Siraj produced a superb delivery to get rid of David Miller. The umpire gave it not out and the decision had to be overturned as it hit the pad before pad to leave Rajasthan Royals in tatters at 18 for 3. Sanju Samson looked in decent touch hitting lovely boundaries off Kane Richardson’s bowling. At the end of the first six overs, Rajasthan Royals made 32 for 3.
After the field restrictions, Kohli bought Chahal and Sundar into the attack. Sundar made life miserable for RR as Samson chipped a simple catch to midwicket. Dube and Riyan Parag put the pressure back on RCB bowlers with great hitting, especially by Dube. At the end of the first timeout, RR made 64 for 4.
Dube and Parag put the pressure back on Chahal and other bowlers. Parag was dismissed to hit a ramp shot but edged into the hands of Chahal at third man. Dube and Parag added 66 runs for the 5th wicket. Rahul Tewaita looked in sublime form right from the word go putting pressure on RCB bowlers along with Dube. At the end of the 2nd timeout, RR ended at 120 for 5.
Kane Richardson provided the breakthrough for RCB getting rid of Dube as Maxwell took a good running catch at long-on. Tewaita continued his aggressive approach putting enough pressure on Jamieson and Siraj. Siraj got the wicket of Tewaita providing an easy catch to Shahbaz Ahmed. Tewaita and Morris added 37 runs for the 7th wicket. Harshal Patel bowled a superb 20th over giving away 7 runs grabbing 2 important wickets of Morris and Sakariya. Rajasthan Royals posted 177 for 9 at the end of the 20 overs.
Chasing down 178 runs to win, Paddikal and Kohli started off briskly with some great hitting putting pressure back on the RR bowlers right from the word go and made life for Sanju Samson. At the end of the first six overs, RCB raced away to 59 for 0.
RCB openers looked in great touch timing the ball brilliantly. At the end of the first timeout, RCB reached 67 for 0. Paddikal completed his fifty off 27 balls while Kohli gave good support to him. The left-handed Paddikal kept on hitting boundaries and made life easier for RCB. After a slow start, Virat Kohli also joined in the party blasting away RR bowlers. During the innings, he became the first batsman to hit 6000 IPL runs.
Kohli raced away to his fifty off 34 balls and hit boundaries at will. At the end of the second timeout, RCB scored 162 for 0. Paddikal did not disappoint as he completed his maiden IPL century off 51 balls. The match ended with 5 runs as Rahman bowled a wide delivery. RCB registered a commanding 10 wickets win with 21 balls to spare.
RCB 181 for 0 in 16.3 overs (Paddikal 101, Kohli 72, Sakaryia 0/35) beat Rajasthan Royals 177 for 9 in 20 overs (Dube 46, Tewaita 40, Siraj 3/27, Harshal Patel 3/47) by 10 wickets.
Royal Challengers Bangalore registered their fourth successive win of the tournament and moved top of the points table. For his unbeaten 101*, Devdutt Paddikal was awarded the man of the match.
